My Approach to Counselling

I believe you are the expert of yourself! You get to help us understand what concerns need our focus, and you define what positive change will look like for you. Counselling is a collaborative process.

It is important to me that I take the time to fully understand your concerns, and the context in which they are arising. I take a down to earth approach to therapy, and value working from a trauma informed, strengths-based perspective. I utilize an eclectic approach, which means I draw from multiple counselling theories.

Counselling theories I draw from:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

  • Somatic Approaches

  • Polyvagal Theory

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

  • Gottman Method

  • Expressive Arts

Issues I can help with:

  • Anxiety

  • Childhood Sexual Abuse and Sexual Assault

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • ADHD

  • Depression

  • Developing Coping Skills

  • Stress

  • Self-Esteem

  • Communication Issues

  • Life Transitions

  • Relationship Issues

“Being human is not about being any one particular way; it is about being as life creates you—with your own particular strengths and weaknesses, gifts and challenges, quirks and oddities.”
